What A Game!

For the first time since 2000 Georgia Tech has beaten the Georgia Bulldogs - and they did it at Georgia! Scott got to be on the sidelines for the game which was exciting for him. Eric, Amy, and Katie went to the game and sat in the first row (Scott gets family tickets).

This wasn't the final score , but they turned off the scoreboard so quickly when the game ended that we could not get one with the final score. It's still nice though!

Happy Thanksgiving

God has been exceedingly merciful to us, and the memory of those mercies ought to move us to a deep, sustained gratitude. A thankful spirit begins when we recall the memory and give thanks once again for all He has done for us. “Our gratitude to God will almost certainly be in proportion to our sense of feeling unworthily blessed, because the same God who could have passed us by – didn’t” (R.T. Kendall, Just Say Thanks).

Our Thanksgiving began a bit differently this year. Amy ran the Atlanta Half Marathon this morning with my sister. They ran well and had a good time. Maybe this will be a new tradition. Scott was also up early to football practice and a mandatory Thanksgiving dinner with the team in preparation for the big game Saturday. He did make it back to celebrate with us also.

We enjoyed our celebration with family. We are truly blessed. "Oh Give Thanks to the Lord for He is good!" Ps. 118:1

Happy Birthday Mom!

Today we celebrated my mom's birthday by going out to dinner. My mom has been a great model of love and sacrifice to her children and grandchildren. She has always been there whenever we needed her and given of her time, money, talents or whatever she can to encourage and support us. Thanks mom - we love you!

Father/Son Camp

Friday night our church had a father - son camping experience. One of the families in our church lives on 35 acres and has all sorts of things that men and boys love. So the men and boys bundled up and headed over. They spent a lot of time shooting guns and also trying to keep warm. It was quite nippy - at night it dropped into the 20's! I was very happy to be in a warm house as opposed to a tent, but they all had a great time.

Wedding

Last Saturday the daughter of a dear friend was married. We moved in around the corner from this family when Scott was 4. At that time we had already decided to home school, but we really did not know anyone else who was making this choice. In God's providence however this family that we moved right near was already home schooling. We became fast friends, as did our children, and she was in many ways a mentor to me in the path of home schooling. At that time there were not as many options or support as there are today and her support and knowledge was very valuable to me and I thank the Lord for leading us to that house. We both moved out of that neighborhood at the same time about two years ago, and although they are further away we remain close and get together often. Molly and Emily were privileged to be flower girls in the wedding. It was a very lovely wedding!

Applesauce

A few weeks ago my parents took Katie and Peter up to North Georgia. They came back with lots of apples so the last two Saturdays were spent making and canning applesauce. In all we canned 71 quarts of applesauce and 5 quarts of apple butter. We also made several pies and a couple of apple cakes.

Cross Country Banquet/Running

The cross country team had their banquet on Saturday night officially ending the season. Amy started off Saturday running in a 10 mile race at Stone Mountain. She ran the 10 miles in 1 hour and 18 minutes. She placed first in her age group; however, as she was the only one in her age group I guess that means she placed last also! She was pleased with her time as she really hasn't been training much since the cross country meets ended a few weeks ago. Next she is preparing to run a half marathon on Thanksgiving Day. (It's called The Turkey Trot!)

We ended the day with the banquet. Each runner received some sort of award at the banquet:
Molly won the Persistence Award for Junior Girls
Peter was the Most Determined Junior Boy
Katie won the Best Sportsman Varsity Girl
Amy was the Fastest Varsity Girl
