Cross Country Week 2

The rain held off this week and the races went well. Katie placed 7th so she was very happy with that. Peter, Molly and Emily all ran well also.

After the meet we headed to the Georgia Tech game with my parents. Scott dressed and we watched as the Yellow Jackets beat UNC 24-7. Go Tech!! (the rain which held off for the meet drenched us at the end of the game!)

Leaf Shirts

On Friday, some of our home school group came over for some leaf activities. First we had a leaf scavenger hunt (the boys won!). Then we made leaf print shirts. We sprayed the leaves with fabric paint and then pressed them onto shirts. They turned out rather nicely and we all had a great time

Training Wheels Off

One day last week Emily was outside with Matthew and Elizabeth while I was doing some school with Peter and Molly. Emily decided to teach Elizabeth to ride without training wheels (not what I would have attempted with a 3 year old, nor if I had known about would have encouraged). But she learned - very quickly - and now she is riding like a pro. She is not however stopping like a pro yet - evidenced by her running into the van, the gate, the bushes, the dogs and her siblings!

Cross Country Begins

The cross country season opened with its first meet under less than ideal conditions. It had been raining hard here for at least a week and it was still raining Saturday morning. The meet however went on. Katie, Peter, Molly and Emily (her first year) are all running this year. We didn't get a picture of Peter, but here are some that were taken of the others.

The start of the Junior Race. Molly is to the right of middle.

Emily coming into the finish. Molly is beside here but shielded by the other girl.

Katie - who would rather me not post any running pictures of her, so we won't make a comment.

Eric helps with coaching.
Considering the conditions they all did very well, but it was a very wet day. And the rain has continued. In fact they closed schools in our area today due to flooding. We in turn had our own flood. Elizabeth came to get in our bed around 3am due to the thunder and lightening (this is a regular occurrence lately with all the storms). We noticed the power was out and Eric got up to check on the others and as he went through the kitchen he realized he was walking through a lake rather than the kitchen floor. Our handyman came to fix it today; however Matthew just came and informed me that there is water all over the kitchen again, so I guess I'll go mop!!

Beach Vacation

We were thrilled to be able to go to the beach for my extended family's vacation in August. As I have been getting into the school routine here, I never posted any pictures, so thought I would go ahead and just put them up late.

At camp this summer some of the staff made tie-dye t-shirts. Scott made one for me and Amy and Katie made one for themselves. Katie then thought it would be neat to make them for our family - thus the family picture in tie-dye.

Then Katie decided to make them for all my family so we had a big tie-dye picture.

We enjoy going to a restaurant that has a patio where we can watch the container ships come in.

I was having a great time until this thing showed up on the tree right outside our condo door. I was done with the beach at that point!

Katie got up and took some sunrise pictures.

Then she took some sunset ones over the marsh.

We had a wonderful time.

Football Season

Football season starts tomorrow as Tech plays Jacksonville State. Scott gets to dress so we are headed down to the game. The following article was published last winter in the Georgia Tech Alumni Magazine. I meant to put it up then, but did not, so here it is - appropriate for the start of the season. We thought it was pretty cool!

Happy 50th Anniversay!

On Saturday my parents celebrated 50 years of marriage. To honor them we, the kids, hosted a dinner party at our house. It was a wonderful time of looking back and being with friends, some whom we have not seen for quite some time. It was a beautiful evening.

We set up tables on the back deck area where we had dinner. A chef friend of my brother's came and made cherries jubilee for dessert. He made it outside on a table and it was quite a production. Amy made 6 pound cakes on which we put ice cream topped with his cherries jubilee. It was wonderful.

Mom dancing with Donovan. Note the dessert chef in the background. He also made a mean wild mushroom ravioli as part of the dinner!
Scott and a friend provided some very nice dinner music.
